A second visit to Marldon WI

There is something lovely about being invited back somewhere, particularly when the first visit left you with such a positive feeling. This year, we were delighted to return to Marldon Village Hall for another evening with the local Women’s Institute.

Our first WI evening was at Torquay WI, where we had the opportunity to introduce people to Regina Rowe and talk about life as a local, independent jeweller. This time, returning to the WI community in Marldon felt like another chance to do what we enjoy most – talk about jewellery, meet people and hear the stories behind the pieces that mean something to them.

Rather than simply bringing jewellery along to look at, we wanted the evening to be about conversation. Jewellery naturally gives people something to talk about, and we find that once those conversations start, you often hear some wonderful stories.

A family history in local jewellery

David Rowe has spent decades in the local jewellery trade, including his work at Conroy Couch Jewellers. At our first WI evening, we joined David as he shared some of his story, while I introduced Regina Rowe and talked about why jewellery is so much more than something beautiful to wear.

For me, one of the most rewarding parts of being a jeweller is hearing the stories behind the pieces our customers choose – whether it’s an engagement ring, a special gift or something inherited from someone they love.

It’s the stories behind the pieces that stay with us

A ring, necklace or pair of earrings can mean something completely different to the person wearing it. It might mark a milestone, celebrate a relationship or keep the memory of someone special close.

I love hearing those stories. It’s one of the reasons I enjoy what I do – because we’re not simply helping someone choose jewellery, we’re sometimes helping them choose something that will become part of their story.

Getting the jewellery out and having a look

We also brought along a selection of jewellery for the ladies to look at during the evening. There is something quite different about seeing jewellery in person rather than looking at it through a screen. You can pick something up, see how it catches the light and get a proper feel for its size and proportions.

There were plenty of questions too, which is exactly what we hoped for. Conversations covered different types of jewellery and diamonds, including questions about natural diamonds and lab-grown diamonds – something we are asked about regularly in the shop.

And that, really, is what we enjoy about evenings like this. They aren’t about giving people a sales pitch. They are about having an open conversation, sharing what we know and listening to what people want to know. If someone leaves feeling that they understand a little more about jewellery, then that’s a good evening for us.

Being part of our local community

Returning to Marldon WI reminded us just how much we enjoy being involved in the local community. Regina Rowe may be a new name on the high street, but the people behind the business have been part of the Torquay jewellery community for generations.

We are proud to be an independent jeweller and, just as importantly, we enjoy getting to know the people around us. Even a simple evening of looking at jewellery and chatting can lead to some really interesting conversations and connections.

So, thank you to everyone at Marldon WI for welcoming us back. We hope you enjoyed looking through the jewellery and asking all those questions as much as we enjoyed being there. And who knows – perhaps we’ll see you again at another local community evening soon.

If you’re looking for a piece of jewellery with a story of your own, you can explore our jewellery rings, jewellery necklaces, jewellery bracelets, and jewellery earrings online, or pop into Regina Rowe in Torquay and have a chat with us in person.
